Buildings consume 39% of all energy used in the US

Buildings also produce 38% of US carbon dioxide emissions, and consume 72% of electricity.  Green building can reduce our environmental footprint of buildings through resource and energy efficiency, the use of environmentally friendly materials and construction practices, and environmentally sensitive design and site selection.  

The Bloomington Commission on Sustainability, the Environmental Commission, the Center for Sustainable Living, the South Central Indiana Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, and Wonderlab have all teamed together to promote the principles of green building in Bloomington.

Green Building Tour

Saturday, April 25th

The tour will include 7 sites, including the New Wings project of Middle Way House, one of several local straw bale homes, Indiana's first Gold LEED-certified home, and a demonstration of a blower-door test on an older home.  Expert tour guides will provide their insights into green building throughout the tour, and site-specific experts will share their experiences in greening their own sites.  

The tour will run roughly 9am - 4pm and will include lunch.  Participants may skip the Gold LEED home and be finished by 1pm.

Tickets:  $15.00

Ticketholders will be given a discount to get into Wonderlab on April 25 and 26.
